AI strategy could boost economy, innovation agency says

Sweden needs a national strategy for artificial intelligence to capitalise on the technology, according the innovation agency Vinnova.

AI R&D could contribute twice as much to Sweden’s economy by 2035 if proper support measures were put in place, an analysis compiled by Vinnova on behalf of the Swedish government and published on 2 May found. But the country would need more initiatives in education and research, as well as dedicated funding, to make this happen, Vinnova said.

The agency pointed out that its financing of AI research projects rose sharply in the past three years. It said that a national strategy covering academia, businesses and the policies that support them would help Sweden reap the rewards of this trend.
