Hackers target Swedish academics for unpublished data

Swedish researchers are among those attacked by hackers that American investigators believe are based in Iran, according to the Universitetsläraren website.

The research news site reported on 20 September that hackers attempted to log into university accounts and to access internal documents.

“Sweden and Swedish researchers have been affected,” said Fredrik Blix, a professor of cybersecurity at Stockholm University. “One reason could be to access unpublished data to plagiarise research.”
