ERC to fund Korean sabbaticals

The European Research Council will support Korean researchers who want to join teams in the EU on a short-term basis, under an agreement with Korea's ministry of science.

The initiative, signed on 8 November, will encourage Korean scientists to join ERC grant winners for a period of six to twelve months, during which time the Korean nationals will be fully funded as part of the project.

“The agreement is a further important step in the mission of the ERC to make Europe an attractive place for frontier research,” said the president of the ERC, Helga Nowotny, adding that the agreement would build links between South Korea and Europe at ground level.
