Disciplines such as archaeology, linguistics, music and cultural heritage studies could all benefit from the digitisation of their research, says the European academies federation Allea.
In a report on 13 May, Allea urged researchers in the humanities to embrace digital systems as this would improve access to their research.
The report, which is aimed at policymakers, recommends that humanities scholars should create digital archives of unique and cultural artefacts and make their data open access. It also calls for more training and support for researchers in data management skills.
