Two major institutes team up against metabolic diseases

Germany's Max Planck Institute and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden have announced the establishment of a joint research laboratory specialising in congenital metabolic disorders.

The facility, to be named the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, will be located at the Karolinska Institute’s campus in Solna, Sweden.

Although Max Planck researchers are already being working on these diseases at its institute in Cologne, those projects have so far been limited to animal models. However, the deal with the Swedish institute will allow German researchers to access the Karolinska’s patient material.
