Libraries plan for open science

Research libraries should take the lead on new publishing models and citizen science to aid the open science movement, the European association has said.

In a position paper published on 17 May, the Association of European Research Libraries (Liber) said it wanted libraries to be “enablers of open science”.

This will include helping to develop new indicators to measure impact, the paper said, as a move away from traditional bibliometrics. Libraries should also continue to push for copyright reform, which as it stands is impeding the process of text and data-mining that helps to promote an open science culture, Liber said.
