Both the ‘gold’ and the ‘green’ models of making research papers openly available are still needed, the European University Association has said.
The EUA made a plea for funders to support the two main models of open-access publishing in a set of recommendations for university leaders it launched this week. The paper is intended to help ensure that by 2020 every research paper published is made openly available.
Both the gold and the green models “have their advantages and should be pursued”, the EUA said. However, it highlighted problems with the two models that it said funders and policymakers need to address.
