The 2020 EuroScience Open Forum will take place in Trieste, Italy, while Leiden and The Hague in the Netherlands will host ESOF 2022.
Trieste and Leiden/The Hague both submitted bids to host ESOF 2020, but the organisers decided to honour them both by selecting the location for ESOF 2022 early. The two bids were both “impressive and solid”, EuroScience said in a press release on 11 July.
EuroScience had made a specific effort to attract hosts in central and eastern Europe, its secretary-general Peter Tindemans told Research Europe in March. However, none of the expressions of interest it received from countries in those regions met the necessary requirements, he said. Hosting the event costs around €2 million.
