Universities lend partial backing to higher education agenda

Higher education institutions can help meet future labour market needs through innovative curricula, digital technologies and support for lifelong learning, the European University Association has said.

The EUA has published a response welcoming the European Commission’s May communication on a renewed agenda for higher education, which it said placed a strong emphasis on a greater role for universities in society and on delivering the necessary skills of the future.

“EUA welcomes the agenda, as it provides a broad vision on the role of higher education, with a strong emphasis on topics of critical importance for the European higher education sectors, such as the enhancement of the study experience, transition into the labour market, social inclusion and the wider contribution of higher education to society,” the response said.
