Views on mobility sought

The European Commission is seeking views on initiatives intended to help researchers move between academia and industry, to help it decide whether more EU support is needed.

The Commission’s directorate-general for research launched a study on 25 July that aims to identify the best existing mobility programmes and understand barriers to their uptake. The Commission will then decide whether additional EU initiatives should be proposed.

The overall aim is to promote mobility between academia and industry, the Commission said. Links between businesses and universities are a way to increase innovation as well as employment opportunities for doctoral graduates, who face a shortage of academic positions, it said.
