Applied universities call for diversity in networks

The EU’s plan to start funding university networks should support an eclectic mix of institutions and bridge the gap between higher education and research, a group of universities of applied sciences has said.

Universities of Applied Sciences for Europe (UAS4Europe) published a statement on 16 April giving general support to the proposal that the EU should fund university networks. The idea was first proposed by France’s president Emmanuel Macron in September 2017.

But the group said its support was conditional on the networks strengthening links between the European Higher Education Area and European Research Area, which promote international cooperation in teaching and research respectively.
