Robert-Jan Smits, former top R&D official at the European Commission, has been appointed the future president of the executive board of Eindhoven University of Technology.
Smits will take up the role in the spring of 2019, pending approval from the Commission, TU Eindhoven announced on 17 September. It said his job would be to safeguard the university’s strategy, finances, reputation and positioning, and to maintain its external relations.
Smits said in a statement that he chose TU Eindhoven as his next career move “because it is embedded in a strong, high-tech region” and together with local businesses is “realising the unimaginable”.
