‘Manipulated data’ triggers retraction at top Swiss institute

École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne team withdraw paper on pain from Science

The team behind a neuroscience paper published in the high-impact journal Science has retracted its findings after one of the authors admitted to falsifying data.

The paper, detailing experiments on mice that investigated learning processes after painful events, was published in May by researchers from the top Swiss research institute École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. But in October one of the paper authors discovered problems with the data underlying the work.
