Universities seek support for teaching-quality initiatives

National governments and the EU should fund a range of European initiatives for improving standards of teaching in higher education, the European University Association has said.

There are at least six different forms that such initiatives could take, and a variety of options should be explored, according to a feasibility study published by the EUA on 14 February. The study was a response to a 2013 report from a high-level EU working group, which found a need for such initiatives.

“It would not be realistic to expect one European initiative to cater to the diverse needs and demands of the entire European higher education sector,” the EUA’s European Forum for Enhanced Collaboration in Teaching project concluded. “Therefore, several alternative models should be considered.”
