Applicants to an EU call to set up networks of European Universities have complained about having to exclude Swiss institutions from their proposals, as well as a lack of clarity over Switzerland’s eligibility.

The first pilot call for the European Universities Initiative, which seeks to grow cross-border collaboration between higher education institutions using funding from the EU’s Erasmus+ programme, closed on 28 February having received 54 proposals.

But at least two consortia expressed unhappiness about having to exclude Swiss institutions and said they received mixed messages from the European Commission over whether this was necessary.
