The EU has reached its target of having at least 40 per cent of people aged 30 to 34 complete their tertiary education by 2020, achieving its goal two years earlier than planned.
In 2018, 40.7 per cent of people aged 30 to 34 across the EU had completed tertiary education, including undergraduate degrees and higher technical qualifications, the EU statistics agency Eurostat announced on 26 April. There has been a steady increase from 23.6 per cent since the data series began in 2002, it said.
More women than men have completed tertiary education in this age bracket, Eurostat reported. In 2018, 45.8 per cent of women had such qualifications, versus just 35.7 per cent of men.
