Maastricht University suffers ‘serious’ cyber attack

  

Criminal investigation underway into attack, which university has battled for more than a week

Maastricht University in the Netherlands has said it is still recovering from a “serious cyber attack” launched against it on 23 December 2019.

Hackers “committed a major breach of the university’s ICT systems and thereby put a strain on the daily operations of the institution”, according to a 2 January statement from the university. It said it temporarily took all of its systems offline on 27 December, and is reinstating access in phases.
