Early-career researchers ‘should be given leadership chances’

Leadership influence would help boost researchers’ careers, university group says

Early-career researchers should be given the chance to take leadership roles in academia and university governance—such as through participation in bodies and committees—to help boost their careers, a university group has recommended.

“Involvement will enhance the connection and engagement to the institution, increase the relevance of decisions made to researchers, and therefore the likelihood to achieve excellence and to have creative and productive contributions,” the Cesaer group of science and technology universities said in a report published on 10 February.
