EU advisers report mixed progress on open science

Group reports ‘disparity in progress and motivation’ and lack of policy alignment

The EU has made “reasonable progress” towards some of its goals for open science, but is lagging on other aspects, according to a high-level advisory group on the topic set up by the European Commission’s research division.

Open science, roughly, is making research methods and results publicly available for scrutiny and reuse, although as the EU Open Science Policy Platform said in its final report, published on 28 May, “One can probably find as many definitions of open science as actors talking about it.”
