Focusing funds on innovation is short-sighted, according to a group of research-intensive institutions
The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, which represents 20 institutions across the continent, has called for more EU regional development funding to flow towards research rather than just innovation.
In a statement circulated on 7 July, the Guild said the issue had been brought to the fore by the Covid-19 pandemic, with recession-related cuts to public higher education funding expected in the years ahead.
