European Commission urged to avoid prescriptive approach amid move to protect academia from Chinese influence

Academic leaders have praised a European Commission push to prevent foreign interference at the continent’s universities, but insisted guidelines being worked up should have a light touch.

The guidelines are being drafted as countries around the world take an increasingly hard-line stance on Chinese involvement in their research and universities.
