University association warns against “overloading” cooperation initiative with “top-down” political goals
The European University Association has complained that EU member state governments are asking too much of the cross-border cooperative alliances being supported by the bloc’s European Universities Initiative, adding its voice to those of other university groups that have voiced similar fears.
“EUA is concerned by the number of policy goals and objectives that the alliances are asked to fulfil,” the association said on 18 May, after education ministers adopted conclusions on the EUI at a meeting of the Council of the EU held the previous day. It stressed the need to be “realistic about what can be achieved during the pilot phase and with limited resources”.
