EU plan spurs research assessment reform

Agreement wins over 51 organisations at launch, adding to momentum for change

Momentum for change in research assessment is strengthening, with an EU-led push for reform garnering over 50 signatures from leading European institutions in time for its official launch.

Those behind the agreement, coordinated by the European Commission, hope it will make assessment of institutions, projects and researchers fairer and more reflective of different roles and results. It includes commitments such as making greater use of qualitative evaluation and avoiding institutional rankings when assessing individuals.
