Cesaer group says long-term sustainability of European Universities Initiative alliances needs underpinning

European universities have renewed their push for the EU to devote long-term funding to cross-border alliances of higher education institutions, which the bloc has so far funded only on a short-term basis, despite heaping increasingly high expectations on them.

The European Universities Initiative has so far allocated almost €300 million to 41 alliances under funding calls that launched in 2019 and 2020, while a 2022 call is offering a further €272m to continue some of those alliances and launch some new ones.
