Academia cannot outspend industry on artificial intelligence but could better leverage its expertise, EU hears
More interdisciplinary academic research on artificial intelligence tools is needed to prevent industry from gaining too much power over them, the EU has been warned.
In recent months, AI tools trained on vast amounts of text so they can respond to queries, such as ChatGPT, have attracted heightened interest around the world. The warning to the EU about research on such tools came during a session hosted by the European Parliament’s panel on science and technology on 26 April.
