Tighter US grant rules spark backlash

European and US universities united in opposition to stricter NIH requirements for foreign collaborators

Academics and research groups in the United States have joined European universities in a pushback against the US National Institutes of Health’s tightening of grant conditions for foreign collaborators.

In a joint statement shared with Research Europe in early July, 86 European universities raised “grave concerns” that the NIH measures “will complicate and may tarnish existing research collaborations”.
