Open-data version of Leiden Ranking launched

  

Move is intended to make comparison of universities more transparent

The team behind the CWTS Leiden Ranking of universities has published what it suggests is the first open-data and open-source university ranking, saying the move is aimed at increasing the transparency of how institutions are compared.

Several global rankings of universities are produced by commercial and non-profit organisations as a way for students and researchers to compare institutions on various metrics. Most make use of bibliometric data provided by companies in exchange for a fee.
