Finnish Academy chair says environmental footprint of research is “price we have to pay”

A leading European academic has advised researchers not to scale back their own work in order to cut carbon emissions, saying that the benefits of research outweigh its environmental harms.

Minna Palmroth, chair of the board of Technology Academy Finland, said she was “shocked” to learn recently that some scientists want to cut down their work to reduce their own carbon footprint.
