‘Allies must align on research security’

RI Days: Speakers at Commission conference say EU and allies must learn from each other

Europe must ensure its policies on research security are aligned with those of its allies around the world, speakers at the European Commission’s Research and Innovation Days conference have warned.

Over the past year or so, the EU has been stepping up its activities around ensuring that its research and innovation efforts are not inappropriately influenced or taken advantage of by malign actors, particularly through international collaboration. In January, for example, the Commission called on EU member states to adopt a position on the issue that would avoid their national policies becoming a complicated “patchwork”.
