Proposal receives mixed initial response from higher education sector

The European Commission has presented a plan for facilitating joint European degrees, which are intended to make it easier for higher education institutions to collaborate across national borders on higher education qualifications.

Offering joint degrees across borders is tricky for institutions because EU countries have different rules and procedures for qualifications. Education is a national competence in the EU, so the EU itself can only try to facilitate cooperation, not dictate rules.
