Commission seeks further views on European Education Area

Consultation on EU initiative to raise standards and boost mobility follows earlier call for evidence

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the European Education Area, an EU policy initiative to improve education standards among member states and increase student mobility between them.

The consultation, which closes on 27 June, aims to collate information from interested parties to make an “evidence-based and measured” judgment of the progress the EEA has made.

This will inform a review by the Council of the EU member states of the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training.

All input welcome

The Commission is inviting contributions from anyone with an interest in European cooperation in education and training, including national and regional authorities, students, educators and non-governmental organisations.

A questionnaire asks contributors questions including the extent to which education and training in the EU have tackled challenges including inequality in recent years.

The consultation follows a call for evidence on the EEA that ran last year. Respondents to that call included the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, which said that steps should be taken to make student mobility more even and that lifelong learning should be addressed more prominently by the EEA.
