The rise of populism seen in 2018 is not going away
To say that the past year has been “eventful” is an understatement. But while it is customary at this time to promise that next year will be different, we will have to break with that tradition.
In European research, the last 12 months have witnessed the budding of two initiatives that will shape things for years to come: Plan S and Horizon Europe. Looking ahead, the debate around Plan S can only intensify, as the number of funders subscribed to the open-access initiative continues to build. The plan’s publishing goals are intended to be implemented from 2020, meaning signatories must prepare in earnest in 2019.
