Myths and legends

A local superstition says that no undergraduate should walk on the pavement across the centre of the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna or they will not complete their degree. Another tradition holds that students should not climb the Torre degli Asinelli—the two ancient towers that dominate central Bologna. Of course, your correspondents were sadly kept too busy at the Bologna-based European Association of Research Managers and Administrators conference (see Briefing, page 7) to fall foul of these curses.
