Summer reads: This is what Horizon Europe’s successor should look like

An uncertain future demands a strong commitment to research, say Kurt Deketelaere and Jan Palmowski

In March, two high-profile leaders in the research sector looked ahead into Europe’s future. Secretary-general of the League of European Research Universities, Kurt Deketelaere, and secretary-general of the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, Jan Palmowski, underlined the importance of Europe investing in its research and innovation to avoid falling behind rivals such as the US and China.

Although the tenth EU framework programme in research and innovation (FP10) will not replace Horizon Europe until 2028, Deketelaere and Palmowski set out what they wanted to see from the next multi-billion-Euro programme. With planning for FP10 set to step up over the rest of the year, their priorities remain vital reading.
