Aiming high

This month, the European Commission announced it had partially accepted a registration for a European Citizens’ Initiative on Cannabis, including an objective that the EU should “allocate the necessary resources for researching cannabis for its therapeutic purposes”. The ECI organisers now have six months to start collecting supportive signatures, and they will then have a year to bag a million backings. If they achieve that, the Commission will be required to formally respond to the petition.
