Marsden Fund announces 2014 winners

More than 100 research projects have been allocated a share of 59 million New Zealand dollars ($46m) from the Marsden Fund's 2014 round of grants.

The fund, which is run by the Royal Society of New Zealand on behalf of the national government, allocates grants annually to support projects in science, technology, engineering, maths, social sciences and the humanities.

Some 1,222 proposals were submitted to the competition this year, with 248 progressing to a second round. A total of 101 proposals were ultimately funded, making the overall success rate 8.3 per cent. All of the funded proposals are for 3 years.
