New Zealand selects centres of excellence

New Zealand's government is to fund centres of research excellence at the University of Auckland, the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University and Massey University.

The four successful centres include the Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga institute in Auckland, which focuses on Māori research, and the Centre for Earthquake Resilience in Christchurch. The Lincoln centre targets bio-protection, and the fourth centre, the Riddet Institute at Massey, focuses on food science and human health.

The four centres join six other institutes already chosen for support under the government’s CoRE programme, and will be funded from 2016 to 2020.
