Auckland to offer scholarships to science postgrads

Canadian philanthropist and global media company founder John McCall MacBain has donated more than $1 million to the University of Auckland to set up a postgraduate scholarship programme.

The Kia Tūhura scholarships will be available from 2019 and will be offered to New Zealand students who are potential leaders in their field of research.

Announcing details, Auckland vice-chancellor Stuart McCutcheon said that 20 scholarships will be offered in 2019, with each recipient matched to “a high calibre mentor to advise, challenge and guide”.
