Official ‘spin’ on fisheries at odds with science

New Zealand’s “world leading” system for sustainable fisheries management lacks scientific data and is “failing miserably”, according to a paper published in a top science journal.

The scathing assessment of NZ’s fisheries quota management system is published online in the United States journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The 12 authors include researchers from Otago, Auckland and Waikato universities.
