Self-awareness a vital skill for ‘wise’ leaders

Good managers consider different perspectives when making a decision and don’t overestimate the value of their own knowledge and experience, according to a study by Massey University.

It found that successful business managers “not only have a true awareness of themselves but also of others and events around them”.

David Pauleen and Ali Intezari from Massey’s school of management interviewed more than 30 senior executives in New Zealand about the role of “wisdom”, or experience and knowledge, in making business decisions.
