Bay of Plenty wins hi-tech horticulture project

New Zealand science minister Paul Goldsmith has announced plans for a $17 million regional research centre to boost digital and robotics technologies for the horticulture industry.

The institute will be based at the North Island harbour city of Tauranga, in the Bay of Plenty region. The city is NZ’s sixth largest and its biggest exports port.

The successful bid for government funding was developed by a group of horticulture and technology industry research partners, and led by regional economic development agency Priority One.
