Cave cameras aid efforts to tackle bat disease

Massey University veterinary researcher, David Hayman, has helped American researchers develop thermal imaging surveillance cameras to monitor the behaviour of hibernating bats.

Hayman worked with a United States Geological Survey research team at Colorado State University in Fort Collins to develop the camera technology and software to process thousands of hours of video footage.

Details of the equipment and the bat hibernation research are published in Methods in Ecology and Evolution.
