New Zealand primary industry minister Nathan Guy has confirmed that the government is to overhaul its animal welfare laws, including those governing the use of animals in research and teaching.
In a brief statement, Guy said that 46 new regulations are currently being developed and will become effective from October 2018.
“These 46 regulations include stock transport, farm husbandry, companion and working animals, pigs, layer hens and the way animals are accounted for in research, testing and teaching,” Guy said.
