Project will cool down power hungry electronics

University of Waikato materials engineer, Fei Yang, has received a $250,000 grant from the US Air Force for research to control over-heating in computers and other high energy-use electronic equipment.

The funding will support Yang’s research into the heat transfer qualities of copper-diamond composites and their potential use in the electronics and communications industries.

He received the two-year grant after presenting a white paper on his research to US Air Force technical staff for peer review. The project has also received funding from Waikato’s strategic investment fund.
