Waterlight Graffiti artist begins AUT residency

French digital artist Antonin Fourneau has taken up a three-month post at Auckland University of Technology as the 2017 Te Ataata creative technologies artist in residence.

Fourneau is digital arts professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. His work focuses using digital technologies to create large-scale interactive artworks.

He is best known for Waterlight Graffiti, a wall of thousands of small LEDs that create patterns of light when sprayed with water. Fourneau developed the project to allow “anyone to graffiti the wall of LEDs with a basic environment-friendly atomizer” such as a water pistol.
