Global food giants a ‘substantial threat’ to NZ agriculture

New Zealand farmers are tech-savvy but few are prepared for a future in which technology could undermine their ability to compete in global and domestic markets, according to a Massey University study

It says big global food companies pose “a substantial threat” to NZ’s agriculture because of their capital and global scale of operation.

Agriculture is one of the country’s biggest export industries, currently worth more than $20 billion annually. The NZ government wants to increase this to $50bn by 2025 as part of its national economic plan.
