Māori blogger calls for shift in conservation approach

A leading Māori environmental campaigner has said that degradation of New Zealand’s rivers and lakes is “part of a larger story of colonisation” and depopulation of rural lands.

Tina Ngata, a Massey University researcher who blogs about plastic pollution as The Non-Plastic Māori, is among the contributors to a book on NZ’s water pollution issues.

The book, From Mountains to Sea: Solving New Zealand’s freshwater crisis, is edited by ecologist Mike Joy from Victoria University of Wellington and will be launched on 14 November.
