Sustainable tourism research centre launched at Lincoln

Lincoln University in Christchurch has opened a national research centre to tackle economic, social and environmental challenges facing New Zealand’s tourism industry.

The multidisciplinary centre will be led by Michael Mackay, a lecturer in rural and urban geography and former Dairy NZ policy adviser. It is the first in a group of three Centres of Excellence that the university will develop over the next three years.

Called Sustainable Tourism for Regions, Communities and Landscapes, it will involve academics in areas such as national park management, resource economics, landscape design and tourism planning.
