New Zealand’s defence force should support more scientific research into climate change and its economic and social impacts on Pacific Islands countries, a government report has said.

The report calls for the Ministry of Defence to become “a more environmentally aware agency” that integrates climate change planning into its activities.

“The defence force should invest more in research relating to science and technological developments around ‘green’ or more sustainable military technology, particularly in relation to different types of fuels, energy storage and renewable energy,” it says.
