New Zealand’s government will work with China to support “quality” development projects in Pacific Islands countries, particularly those that deal with climate change, foreign minister Winston Peters has told a meeting in Washington DC.
“Our Pacific friends have made clear the many challenges they face and they have identified their priorities, including climate change,” he said in a speech at Georgetown University.
Peters, who is also NZ deputy prime minister, called on the Trump administration to “do more” in the Pacific and to increase development aid to the region.
